At SIEM Shipping, safety is more than a checklist — it’s a shared responsibility. In late May, that responsibility came to life in Davisville, Rhode Island, where Siem Car Carriers welcomed a range of key partners aboard the Siem Aristotle for a hands-on fire response workshop designed to strengthen emergency preparedness across the port community.

The workshop brought together shipboard and shore-side teams for a full day of collaborative learning, practical walkthroughs and open discussion. The aim: to improve coordination and readiness between vessel crews and external emergency responders.

Aboard the Siem Aristotle

The session was led by Master Captain Bagayskov and his crew, who guided participants through a detailed tour of the vessel’s onboard fire response infrastructure. This included:

  • Familiarisation with fixed fire-fighting systems and equipment
  • Identification of key safety zones and access points
  • Muster procedures and coordination protocols
  • Integration points between crew actions and external responders

The goal: to improve shared understanding of vessel-specific systems so that, in the event of an incident, shore-based responders can act swiftly and safely in coordination with onboard teams.

A Multi-Agency Effort

The event was attended by a range of local and federal partners, including:

  • Jeffrey W Campbell
  • Philip Bacon, BSc, MBA, FICS, FCIarb, Dip Mar Arb
  • Patrick Murray
  • Representatives from the US Coast Guard
  • North Kingstown Fire Department
  • Port of Davisville (Quonset Development Corporation)
  • North Atlantic Distribution (NORAD)
  • Waterson Terminal Services, LLC

Each brought valuable insight into the shared challenge of maritime emergency response, contributing to open discussion and collaborative planning for future scenarios.

Why It Matters

Proactive drills like these go beyond compliance. They create real-world familiarity between ship and shore teams, shorten response times, and build relationships rooted in mutual respect and understanding.

For SIEM, this session reflects our broader commitment to operational excellence and safety culture — not only for our crews and vessels, but for the entire ecosystem of people and partners who make global shipping possible.

Thank You

We extend our thanks to all who participated, and especially to Captain Bagayskov and the crew of the Siem Aristotle for their leadership and hospitality.
